Last week, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration awarded more than $8 million to the state of Pennsylvania and its two largest cities to help bolster Pennsylvania commercial truck and bus safety.
The state’s police, Public Utility Commission, and Department of Transportation received $7.9 million. In part, those funds will allow Pennsylvania to modernize its commercial driver’s license knowledge test from paper to electronic form. The money will also help these agencies to monitor the safety of new commercial vehicle companies and enforce trucking laws more strictly along roads with a high risk of crashes.
The FMCSA gave additional funds to the Philadelphia Police Department ($174,370) and the Pittsburgh Police Department ($239,991) to help those cities enforce commercial vehicle laws and inspections.
