Two people were killed and a dozen were injured in a 16-vehicle pileup on Interstate 40 in western Oklahoma on Saturday, March 31. According to NewsOn6.com, the Oklahoma Department of Transportation said investigators were still trying to establish what caused the chain-reaction collisions that involved commercial trucks and passenger vehicles and closed I-40 near Erick in both directions. Dense fog was reported in the area, but investigators were unsure how much of a factor the fog played in causing the accident.
TRUCK ACCIDENT FAST FACT: According to TruckInjuries.com, a recent survey shows that a majority of fatal crashes involving tractor-trailer trucks include a truck pulling one trailer. The survey shows that trucks in 64% of fatal accidents were pulling one trailer. The survey also found that 32% of trucks involved in fatal truck accidents were single-unit trucks, and fewer than 4% were multi-trailer trucks.
