A tractor trailer traveling on southbound Route 81 in Whitney Point, N.Y., collided with a state police patrol car that had pulled to the shoulder of the road on Saturday, Feb. 25. According to YNN.com, the state trooper was on the side of the road with its lights on when the tractor trailer lost control and smashed into it, knocking it into the median. The trooper was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.
TRUCK ACCIDENT FAST FACT: According to TruckInjuries.com, a recent survey shows that a majority of fatal crashes involving tractor-trailer trucks include a truck pulling one trailer. The survey shows that trucks in 64% of fatal accidents were pulling one trailer. The survey also found that 32% of trucks involved in fatal truck accidents were single-unit trucks, and fewer than 4% were multi-trailer trucks.
