Gainesville.com reports that two Fort Myers, Florida residents were seriously injured when their van was struck in the rear by a semitrailer on I-75 Tuesday morning, causing it to spin, overturn and slide into a concrete barrier. Florida Highway Patrol reports that charges against the driver of the semitrailer truck are pending in this crash that left the van’s 84-year-old passenger in serious condition and its 75-year-old driver in critical condition.
KansasCity.com reports that a Kansas Department of Transportation worker was injured on the job on December 29th on I-35 near Southwest Boulevard in Kansas City, Kansas when a semi tractor-trailer struck his arm as he directed traffic, sending him to a local hospital where he was treated and released. The semi did not stop following the incident and Kansas Highway Patrolmen are asking any witnesses to the incident to come forward with information.
Chron.com | AP Texas News reports that a Dallas, Texas woman was injured on I-20 near Shreveport, Louisiana when a tractor-trailer loaded with 10 tons of dog food struck her Mercedes and pushed it into a second tractor trailer. The woman was taken to the hospital with what was described by Shreveport police in their accident report as “a knot on her head.”
Wisconsin’s Menomonee Falls NOW reports that a 19-year-old woman was in critical condition after the vehicle she was driving was rear-ended by a semi tractor-trailer on Highway 45 in Menomonee Falls. According to Menomonee Falls Police, the young victim’s vehicle was pushed 500 feet down the highway by the semi before coming to a stop at the roadside. She was taken by Flight for Life to an area hospital where she remains in critical condition.
Deseret News reports that a semitrailer hauling snow-grooming equipment triggered a chain-reaction accident on I-15 near the I-215 interchange in North Salt Lake, Utah that involved several vehicles and sent two victims to the hospital. A piece of snow-grooming equipment carried by the big rig extended beyond its trailer and when the truck attempted to merge, the protruding equipment clipped a passenger vehicle, setting off the chain-reaction crash, according to Utah Highway Patrol.
