Truck Accident Weekly Roundup: January 11 – January 17

I get personally offended when, for example, an insurance company offers a pittance when one of their insured’s vehicles crosses a centerline and kills somebody’s mother. SouthCoastToday.com reports that an oil truck hit and seriously injured an 84-year-old man in a motorized wheelchair on Monday, January 10. The big rig pushed the victim’s chair about 30 feet and then ran him over. This truck wreck happened at 3:25pm in the crosswalk at Purchase and Hillman in Boston, Massachusetts.

ClickOrlando.com reports that after running a red light, a dirt-filled dump truck hit a police car early Tuesday, January 11. The officer was removed from his cruiser with the Jaws of Life and then hospitalized with a broken arm. The truck driver told the officer his brakes locked up and he “started sliding.” The truck wreck took place near the intersection of U.S. Highway 441 and Lincoln Avenue in Mount Dora, Florida.

MilfordDailyNews.com reported that after an SUV lost control and flipped over on a snowy highway onramp, a big rig slammed into the passenger side of the disabled vehicle. This truck wreck happened around 1:45pm on Friday, January 14, on an I-495 ramp near Exit 17 in Franklin, Massachusetts. After being removed from the upside-down SUV, the seriously injured driver was taken to a hospital in Providence, Rhode Island. The big rig driver was not hurt, though his truck jackknifed in the accident.

GCDailyworld.com reports that a box truck rear-ended a school bus stopped at a railroad crossing at 7am on Saturday, January 15.  All eleven Shakamak High School students, plus their chaperone and the bus driver, were treated at a local hospital and released. This truck accident happened on US 41, just north of Shelburn, Illinois. The truck driver, who was also treated and released, was cited for driving too fast to avoid a collision.
