Motivated to look further into the issue of truck safety by the California FedEx crash and the New Jersey crash involving Tracy Morgan and WalMart, CNBC has produced a series of stories focusing on truck safety. One of those stories focuses on “chameleon” carriers, also called reincarnated carriers. These are truck companies whose owners–when faced with fines from the government for unsafe operation such as failure to conduct drug tests or maintain log books–simply close down and start a new company.
