I am always a proponent of having access to as much information as possible, particularly as that information concerns the cause of a truck accident. In recent years, we’ve seen the advent of high-tech tools such as truck-mounted video cameras and electronic on-board recorders that provide invaluable details on collisions involving tractor-trailers and other commercial vehicles.
Many truck drivers have voiced their support of drive cams, which may present evidence that helps exonerate them if charged with negligence. And data made available on an EOBR, PeopleNet or many other electronic tracking devices can provide evidence critical to a truck accident case.
As an attorney who represents victims of truck accidents, I want as much information as possible at my disposal, whether details that indicate a driver is at-fault or data that shows the responsibility lies elsewhere.

As an attorney who represents victims of truck accidents, I want as much information as possible at my disposal, whether details that indicate a driver is at-fault or data that shows the responsibility lies elsewhere.
And the fact is, what most victims and their families want more than anything is the truth. Many clients come to me and say, “I’m not the kind of person who sues. There’s just something that doesn’t make sense about why my parent, spouse or child died, and I want to find out why.”
Tech-based tools can deliver those answers, which is why I am in support of initiatives that make better use of them. Anything that can get us closer to discovering the truth – or in some cases, help trucking companies identify high-risk drivers with spotty performance records – is a valuable asset of which we and the trucking industry should be making better use.
