She highlighted how truck safety laws are changing, especially in how state and federal rules interact (preemption). Leizerman also explored how and where trucking cases can be tried (jurisdiction) and the laws surrounding liabilityLegal responsibility for one's acts or omissions. In negligence cases, liability includes proving negligence, proving causation, and resulting damages. via truck driver employment laws (statutory employment). Her presentation provided plaintiffA plaintiff is the person or party who initiates a lawsuit before a court. By filing a complaint, the plaintiff seeks legal remedy for the harm caused by the defendant's actions or inactions. In civil cases, the plaintiff is the party who claims to have incurred a loss due to the defendant's breach of duty or violation of their rights. In the United States, the plaintiff bears the burden of proving their case to obtain relief or damages from the defendant. attorneys in attendance with a clearer understanding of these crucial and intricate topics, equipping them to navigate the modern landscape of trucking law more effectively.
Sharing Insights to Take on Shipping Titans
In addition to the insights shared by the Leizermans, The Law Firm for Truck Safety’s Managing Partner from the Nashville office, Matthew Wright, took a deep dive into the challenges and intricacies of handling Amazon cases with his presentation titled, An Overview of Handling Amazon Cases. In it, he shared how to overcome the obfuscation and the gamification that Amazon and other shipping giants' freight app systems inherently reward, and how attorneys can best establish liability.

Mara Phillips, our distinguished paralegal from the Cleveland, OH office, played a pivotal role in the ATAA's Paralegal Program this year. Beyond her role as a moderator, Mara delivered a compelling talk on how safety advocacy can empower clients, turning their grief into impactful change.
Joe Ervin, our Managing Partner from Oklahoma City, further spotlighted the paralegal role. He discussed how paralegals in trucking litigation can leverage their role to significantly advance their cases and, ultimately, secure justice for the victims of truck crashes and their families.
ATAA Announces New Board Certification for Paralegals
At the paralegal session, it was announced that ATAA now offers a board certification test for paralegals to demonstrate their proficiency in truck accident cases—a significant step forward in standardizing and recognizing the expertise of paralegals in the truck accident arena. We are proud to share that the paralegals from The Law Firm for Truck Safety in both Oklahoma and Ohio took part in this inaugural certification.
