Truck driver fatigue appears to have played a part in an accident in Knoxville that left a Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper with critical injuries on Tuesday, March 13. According to WATE.com, the trooper was in his vehicle in the median of Interstate 40 finishing paperwork from a traffic stop when a tractor trailer swerved and side-swiped his car. The trooper's vehicle was pushed into a concrete wall and caught fire. After rescue crews freed him from his vehicle, the trooper was taken to a nearby hospital and listed in critical condition. The truck driver was uninjured in the accident, and was arrested for aggravated assault with a motor vehicle, reckless endangerment, failure to operate with due care, and violating the move-over law.
