My thoughts are with the family of Frank Murdocc of Norton, Ohio, another family who has suffered the pain of having a loved one seriously injured in a truck accident. On New Year's Day, at Route 18 and Boneta Road in Granger Township, a tractor-trailer with a box trailer failed to stop at a traffic light and struck the Chevrolet pickup Mr. Murdocc was driving and sent it crashing into a Hyundai Sonata.
Mr. Murdocc had to be removed from his vehicle and was taken to nearby Medina hospital with what Ohio State Highway Patrol officers described as serious injuries.
The driver of the semi was cited for a red-light violation and the road had to be treated for spillage following cleanup by the Ohio Department of Transportation.
It's important to immediately investigate tractor trailer crashes to determine the cause. Frequent causes include big rig drivers pushed to drive inordinate numbers of hours and to drive fast while exhausted in order to meet deadlines and to keep schedules. The tremendous forces involved in truck accidents can wreak havoc and devastate lives, and often result in catastrophic or fatal injuries.
In my experience, every truck accident has a cause. It now falls to investigators, law enforcement officials and qualified attorneys to help discover the cause of this accident so that justice may be served and also so that anything learned may be used to help prevent similar events in the future.
