CNBC Series Focuses on Truck Safety

Motivated to look further into the issue of truck safety by the California FedEx crash and the New Jersey crash involving Tracy Morgan and WalMart, CNBC has produced a series of stories focusing on truck safety. One of those stories focuses on “chameleon” carriers, also called reincarnated carriers. These are truck companies whose owners–when faced with fines from the government for unsafe operation such as failure to conduct drug tests or maintain log books–simply close down and start a new company.

The Linhart case was recently featured in the series. The Linhart family were Oregon clients of mine whose case went to trial on the issue of broker liability for chameleon carriers. You can watch CNBC’s video here. It includes an interview with me about chameleon carriers. It also includes an interview with Anne Ferro, the Administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, and its efforts to identify and stop chameleon carriers.
