Thanks to a website that launched this week, that info is now searchable online, along with answers to frequently asked questions about FMCSA's process for making such decisions.
Previously, FMCSA's civil penalty and safety ratings cases were available only at www.regulations.gov -- or to those who paid private-sector legal research websites for access. Now, anyone can search the full text of hundreds of orders and decisions in which motor carriers have contested violations and penalties issued by FMCSA.
You can search cases dating to 2009 by carrier name, case type, docket number, and order title. FMCSA will add new cases as they are finalized. The site also offer a link to submit online Freedom of Information Act requests, plus links to relevant statutes and regulations, and other resources.

"Placing our agency's decisions online and making them easily searchable helps to fulfill President Obama's promise of transparency and open government," said FMCSA Administrator Anne S. Ferro. "More access to information and resources will help regulated industry members and drivers understand FMCSA's compliance and enforcement process."
