Underride Crash | Traumatic Brain Injury, Paralysis
The Law Firm for Truck Safety’s, Andy Young, was lead counsel in securing a $42.4M trial verdict for two Ohio teens who suffered severe functional limitations and brain injuries from an underride crash with a dump truck on the Lorain-Carnegie Bridge in Cleveland, OH in 2010.
While driving east on the Lorain-Carnegie Bridge, a dump truck cut off a Honda Accord, causing an underride collision with the left rear of the dump truck, which resulted in severe functional limitations, a severe brain injury for and blindness in the right eye of the front seat passenger.
After a two week trial, the jury found the driver of the dump truck was responsible for the crash.
The Law Firm for Truck Safety’s Andy Young secured a $34.6M verdict for his client, and John M. Gundy secured a $7.8M victory for an additional passenger in the vehicle who suffered a brain injury and blindness in her right eye.
In 2019, this record verdict was upheld by the Ohio Supreme Court.
As of December 2022, this $42.4M verdict was the largest trucking verdict in the state of Ohio.
