Truck Drivers Need Exercise Too!
Healthy truck drivers are safer truck drivers. A large number of truck accidents are caused by driver fatigue, which is often caused or aggravated by sleep apnea, which is directly related to weight and neck size.
Truck driving by nature is a mostly sedentary job, so drivers need to be extra aware of trucker health and wellness while on the job. Gone are the days of grease and fat, these are the days of heart awareness and more green leafy vegetables.
A few truck stop companies are recognizing these needs and offering drivers fitness centers at their facilities so they may create exercise routines between hauls, Trucking Info reports.
Pilot Flying J, one of the largest travel plaza companies in North America will be partnering with Snap Fitness gyms and the Rolling Strong organization to create facilities specifically for truckers on tight schedules. They will include various workout equipment options and have professionals on hand for training tips.
According to the organization’s website, Snap Fitness is based in Minnesota and has been continually expanding their services throughout the country to provide 24-hour fitness facilities to truckers and others with non-traditional working hours.
Rolling Strong is an initiative that focuses on the physical and mental fitness of truckers. Along with providing places to work out, this program will introduce nutritional guides, medical clinics and sleep diagnosis centers to various truck stops nationwide, reports the news source.
Many Travel Centers of America already have fitness rooms in their rest stops for truckers. Pilot Flying J’s plan is to expand on the health aspect of the person by providing programs and instruction, not just ‘a place to lift weights’.
