Since New Year's Day, truck drivers travelling on many non-interstate highways in Illinois have been able to hit higher speeds after new state law went into effect in 2012. According to the Quad-City Times, Senate Bill 1913 raised the speed limit for semi-trucks on four-lane roads such as Illinois 92 near Interstate 280 from 55 m.p.h. to 65 m.p.h. Two years earlier, the Illinois General Assembly had approved the measure to allow tractor-trailers to travel at the same speed as passenger vehicle on certain interstate highways.

TRUCK ACCIDENT FAST FACT
According to TruckInjuries.com, about 27 percent of drivers of large trucks involved in a fatal truck accident had at least one prior speeding conviction. By contrast, 19 percent of drivers of passenger cars involved in a fatal crash committed previous speeding infractions.
