August brings a mix of memories for many. But for Jessica Balsizer, August will forever be the month that a devastating Ohio truck crash took the lives of her parents and older sister.
At 18 years old, Jessica faced a future few could only fathom. Yet, within this devastating heartache, she found the courage and resolve to become a truck safety advocate. Her goal? To prevent others from experiencing similar heartache.
Jessica's mission now centers on advocating for the universal adoption of automatic emergency braking (AEB) technology within the trucking industry, a critical truck safety technology that could have prevented the truck crash that shattered her world.
In June 2022, alongside her lawyer and fellow truck safety advocate, Michael Leizerman, Jessica attended the Institute for Safer Trucking’s Safety Roundtable. This event offered those affected by truck crashes a platform to share their experiences with policymakers and legislators, with the goal to make life-saving truck safety measures into policy.
