Kansas will receive more than $5 million in grants to bolster truck safety and bus safety, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration announced at an event Friday in Goddard, a town near Wichita.
The Kansas Highway Patrol will receive $3,947,543. That money will fund safety audits of new truck and bus firms, inspections of hazmat-bearing vehicles, and programs that teach teens how to share roads with large commercial vehicles. (Read more about the "Teens and Trucks" program.)
Another $1,114,680 will go to the Kansas Department of Revenue to help fight fraud by setting up an electronic testing system for commercial driver's licenses.
