Two accidents involving four tractor trailers led to dangerous travel on the Indiana Toll Road near South Bend in the early morning hours of Tuesday, March 13. In the first crash, according to WSBT.com, the driver of a semi tractor traveling westbound lost control of his vehicle and swerved off the road. As its driver attempted to right the vehicle, a second semi smashed into it, leaving one vehicle in a ditch and another in the center median. The driver of the second semi was hospitalized with facial lacerations and broken ribs. Another man, who stopped to assist, was also hospitalized with third-degree burns and broken ribs.

A second accident involving two tractor trailers occurred nearby, leaving both rigs in a ditch. There was no report of injuries in that accident.
In a third incident on the Toll Road about 15 miles away, an eastbound tractor trailer caught fire for unknown reasons near Mishawaka.
