Kansas will receive more than $5 million in grants to bolster truck safety and bus safety, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration announced at an event Friday in Goddard, a town near Wichita.
The Kansas Highway Patrol will receive $3,947,543. That money will fund safety audits of new truck and bus firms, inspections of hazmat-bearing vehicles, and programs that teach teens how to share roads with large commercial vehicles. (Read more about the “Teens and Trucks” program.)
Another $1,114,680 will go to the Kansas Department of Revenue to help fight fraud by setting up an electronic testing system for commercial driver’s licenses.
Said FMCSA Administrator Anne S. Ferro: “Our safety-first mission is about building strong partnerships that work to protect our roads and save lives in Kansas and every state. These grants provide education, enforcement, and technology tools that prevent needless tragedies from ever happening.”
