It takes a little fire in the belly to fight with truck companies and insurance companies day in and day out. I get personally offended when, for example, an insurance company offers a pittance when one of their insured’s vehicles crosses a centerline and kills somebody’s mother. Courier-journal.com reports that three people lost their lives on Indiana Route 37 near Orleans, Indiana when 44,000 pounds of steel coil that had been improperly tied down fell from a semitrailer and struck their vehicles. The victims were a 22-year-old driver and 21-year-old passenger of a pickup truck and a 41-year-old driver of a car. An 11-year-old girl, a passenger in the pickup, was hospitalized in fair condition. The Orange County Sheriff’s Department reports that the semitrailer driver was cited for improperly securing the load of coiled steel.
TheTribune of Greeley, Colorado reports that an Aurora, Colorado woman was seriously injured in an accident on I-76 near Lochbuie, Colorado when her car was rear-ended by a semitrailer truck. The woman was taken by helicopter to a Denver hospital. Police report that the driver of the semi truck was checking his GPS at the time of the crash and that he has been cited with “inattentive driving.”
Wausaudailyherald.com reports that the driver of a passenger car was injured on Highway 51 in Marathon County, Wisconsin when a semi-trailer struck his vehicle. The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Marathon County Sheriff’s department officials report that the crash is under investigation.
WHNT News 19 of Huntsville, Alabama reports that a local teenager was injured at the intersection of Martling Road and Hustleville Road in Asbury, Alabama when her SUV was broadsided by an 18-wheeler. The victim, a cheerleader on her way to an event, was reportedly badly injured and was flown by paramedics to Huntsville Hospital for treatment of her injuries.
